The whole rivalry between dogs and cats that's been so overblown by people making small talk on first dates is just that. Overblown. You can absolutely be both, and one does not negate the other. Nobody denies that you can be a hamster person and also a guinea pig person. We just accept that all animal lovers are created equal, at least they should be. Yes, even your weird cousin who owns a pet tarantula. Even he's allowed to join the ranks of animal lovers.

I was a so-called "dog person" for most of my life because I had a dog and I loved him very much. But that doesn't mean that when my roommate got a cat, I didn't fall in love with her and now treat her like my own. Far from it. That little white cat is my favorite thing about coming home at the end of the day.
